I have a similar story. I was never adopted but spent all of my childhood in orphanages until I was 18. I was able to contact Catholic charities and received information about additional family members. It was a long long process.
I've been reading your posts and my heart goes out to you for what you had to endure as a young person. The cruelty is awful. The orphanage sounds Dickensian. I am somewhat familiar with Srs. Of Charity...ironic name for the order. Best to you, and thank you.
Mary Ellen, thank you for reading my posts. Thankfully, life is so much better. I think sometimes we have to go through the storm in order to see the sunshine. Have a beautiful peaceful Sunday.
I'm reading your memoir but haven't gotten to this part of the story yet. I enjoy your writing enormously. It is rich in detail and makes me feel like I've stepped back in time with you.
